GSTIN Validator

15-character structure check + state code + embedded PAN + checksum digit — 100% offline, no data transmitted

Format: 2-digit state code + 10-character PAN + entity number + Z + check digit
GSTIN Structural Validation
Format, state code and checksum verification (offline)
This validates structure and checksum only. Active/cancelled status must be confirmed on the GST portal (Search Taxpayer). No data is transmitted to any server.

About This Tool

The GSTIN Validator checks whether a GST Identification Number is structurally valid. A valid GSTIN follows the 15-character pattern: 2-digit state code + 10-character PAN + 1-digit entity number + 'Z' placeholder + 1 check digit. This tool verifies the format, confirms the state code is recognised, checks that the embedded PAN is structurally valid, and validates the Luhn-style checksum digit. Using an incorrect GSTIN on invoices can lead to ITC rejection.

How to Use

  1. Enter the 15-character GSTIN in the input field.
  2. The tool automatically converts input to uppercase.
  3. Click Validate.
  4. Review the result — each component (state code, PAN, checksum) is validated separately.
  5. A green flag indicates a structurally valid GSTIN; a red flag shows which component failed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this tool verify GSTIN with the government database?

This tool performs offline structural validation only. For live verification against GSTN's database, use the GST portal's Search Taxpayer feature.

What does an invalid GSTIN mean for ITC?

If your supplier's invoice shows an invalid GSTIN, the ITC claim is at risk of rejection in GSTR-2B reconciliation. Always verify before paying invoices.

What is the Luhn-style checksum in GSTIN?

GSTN uses a weighted checksum algorithm (similar to Luhn) using the character set 0–9A–Z to compute the 15th check digit. This helps catch common transcription errors.

Can two businesses have the same GSTIN?

No. Each GSTIN is unique to one taxpayer in one state. A business with branches in multiple states has different GSTINs for each state.
