HRA exemption proof u/s 10(13A) read with Rule 2A · Landlord PAN mandatory if annual rent > ₹1,00,000 · Revenue stamp required for cash payment > ₹5,000 · FY 2026-27
The Rent Receipt Generator creates properly formatted rent receipts that employees can use to claim HRA exemption from their employer for TDS purposes. A rent receipt should contain the landlord's name, address, PAN (if rent exceeds ₹1 lakh/year), tenant's name, property address, rent amount, and period. Employers require physical or digital rent receipts as proof of rent payment before allowing HRA exemption in salary TDS computation.
Is a rent receipt sufficient proof for HRA?
Rent receipts are the primary proof. Your employer may also require a copy of the rent agreement. If annual rent exceeds ₹1 lakh, the landlord's PAN is mandatory.
What if my landlord refuses to give PAN?
Under Rule 26C, if the landlord does not have a PAN, you must obtain a declaration to this effect from the landlord. However, the HRA claim may still be scrutinised by the tax department.
Can I generate rent receipts in bulk for the whole year?
Yes. Select the full year or specific months to generate receipts for all 12 months. Each receipt should be signed by the landlord for it to be valid.
Is rent receipt needed if I pay by bank transfer?
Even with bank transfers, rent receipts are required. Bank statements show payment but do not replace rent receipts. Get receipts from your landlord for every month.
